Punyelroo Caravan Park

2020 Punyelroo CP Getaway

our first getaway

Punyelroo Caravan Park

This was our first ever trip in our motorhome. We left home on May 22, 2020 and returned home on May 22, 2020.

Situated on the edge of the Murray River, 10 kilometres from Swan Reach this is a nice place for a short stay holiday. We sat meters from the water’s edge, watching the birdlife fluttering around and the sun dancing on the surface of the majestic Murray River. The only sounds are the birds and the water lapping at the riverbank. This was the place to escape everyday life.

This is a family friendly park with a small playground for the children, a BBQ area amidst a large lawn area and picnic tables right next to the river.

For those that love the water there is a boat ramp. Depending on the weather, you have the opportunity to go water skiing, jet skiing, boating, fishing, swimming or canoeing.

The staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel at home. We were able to relax and enjoy our short get away.

The amenities were clean and whilst positioned in the centre of the park with a laundry for those staying longer, however they were quite some distance from our riverbank site.

Having transferred the contents of our caravan into our motorhome on Thursday and Friday morning, we were ready to leave 11.45am. We drove down the Sturt Highway through Waikerie before taking the turn off to Swan Reach. Our first ferry crossing was a little scary as we scrapped the exhaust pipe getting on to and off of the ferry. A couple of minutes later we arrived at Punyelroo Caravan Park.

Upon paying our park fees we were advised of our riverbank site and proceeded to set up our motohome for the first time.  By 4.00pm we were well setup and having our first drinks. For tea this evening we had Cauliflower Soup which was heated up in the microwave.

After listening to some music and with the chill of the night air about, we retired to watch some TV inside the motorhome and eventually we fell asleep.

We arose around 7.30am on Saturday and had a toasted bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast.

The weather was very overcast and the wind chill was high making it impossible to relax outdoors. We decided to go for a drive to Murray Bridge, the return trip being around 200kms. We visited the shopping centre and bought a blanket, bowl and toys for Pebbles that will stay in the motorhome.

Having bought KFC for lunch we then went past the Murray Bridge Marina Caravan Park where we will be staying over the June Long Weekend. We then drove back to Swan Reach via Mannum and Purnong.

For Saturday evening’s tea we had a sausage sizzle.

We had pancakes and raisin toast for breakfast Sunday morning.

Once we had finished breakfast we packed away the electrical cord and water hose. We then drove off of the levelling chocks and packed them away. The packup with the motorhome was much quicker and far easier than it was with the caravan.

We left Punyelroo around 10.30am and got back home just before 1.00pm.

Overall we had a good first experience in our motorhome.

Our accommodation costs were $64.00 for two nights.
