Our FTF’s

Unfortunately keeping up individual posts for each find that we have is becoming harder and harder and we are now hopelessly behind. We generated this web page which details all our “First to Find” finds using a GSAK macro.

*FTF* Found this one the Bob way – without a GPS! I saw the listing published Monday morning after having passed GZ on my weekly commute to Adelaide. Then on my way home today almost drove by before remembering that a cache had placed. Was very surprised to find a virgin log sheet. Would be nice to know Mr Ed’s history.
Thanks for the cache!

*FTF* Downloaded co-ordinates direct from GC to the GPSr and off we went for our third cache today. After all the bother with muggles at the previous two caches it was with some relief that we could retrieve this cache without being insight of any live muggles. We enjoyed the grave site tour and will definitely go to the Tourism Office and get the full details of the walking trail. Co-ords all spot on and once GZ was calculated an easy find. I’m not usually that fond of multis due to the standard of some of the multi point clues, this one was a pleasure to do. TFTC Crane2.

We decided to take the nano with us whilst we completed the other two new caches in Renmark. The cache was returned around 5.30pm and was “missing in action” for about an hour and a half. Thanks for filling me in on the history fo the railway line in the Riverland. I was hoping to place a cache near the Barmera Railway Station as part of my Loveday Internment Camp series, but the area where the railway station was is now almost completely filled with new houses with no evidence whatsoever of the old railway station. *FTF* This cache was the sixth in what for us would be a record six first to finds for today. In Olympic parlance this could be a combination of the beach volleyball and the equestrian events. It is most definitely the jewel in the crown of the series. The drive in is fantastic, sandy tracks, gravel tracks, a little surface water – sighted kangaroos and bird life a plenty. As we signed the log we heard a kookaburra singing. How much more Australian can it get. On the way out we drove the Mallee Drive. TFTC gypsycacher.

*FTF* This cache was the fifth in what for us would be a record six first to finds for today. In Olympic parlance I couldn’t compare this to the other caches found today. *FTF* This cache was the second in what for us would be a record six first to finds for today. In Olympic parlance this would have to be the equivalent of the marathon compared to the other caches found today. Having placed a cache on this side of the stone weir I knew where to go. The difficulty for the terrain is well deserved, I managed to scamble across and in taking my first step on land on the other side managed to trip and fall and spill a little claret. It wasn’t going to defeat me, so onward to the cache. Signed the log and then had to scamble back – having lost my confidence, the scamble back seemed to take forever. When back on solid ground I had a well deserved drink of water. Onward to the next cache – Cragg’s Creek – Mallee Drive. TFTC gypsycacher.

*FTF* What would we name this cache? The sanitised name would be “Don’t Pike It – Hike It at Pike River”. What first came to mind was a few well chosen swear words!!.
1) Located the entrance to the 4WD track and took a leap of faith and drove down.
2) The wheel ruts are tricky to navigate and the incline is moderately difficult
3) Walk back up the hill about 60 metres locate the cache and log the find.
4) Most definitely take some photos – the views are majestic!!
5) Leap back into the geomobile and climb up the track – don’t stop to admire any views!!
We had visions of driving around the flats trying to find another way out if we couldn’t get out the way we got in. Fortunately we made it out and logged our find. Another great location – TFTC gypsycacher.

We cheated and entered from the other side rather than at the start. From the track it was a short walk to GZ and after a little searching we came up with the cache and the FTF. Thanks Lizards for taking us to another place we’ve not previously seen. TNLN. TFTC.

A FTF for Jardry. As usual we took the hard way, vearing left and driving over the mudflats and following a number of tracks before ending up close to GZ. In the end we drove to approximately 20mtrs of GZ. The way out was a lot easier and we ended up on the track which ends close to where Bush Orchestra is located. It is amazing just look quickly the reserve is regenerating after the recent (Nov 07) fires. Thanks for bringing us to this location. TFTC.

FTF in the company of Skippy who graciously allowed me to claim the FTF.
Unfortunately I couldn’t see the beauty of the location in the dark.
Hope to come back and see the location in the daylight! TFTC.

FTF for Jardry! As we were logging the FTF we met up withFLIPPER&CO. This was a little familiar except last time we met, FLIPPER&CO were logging a FTF. Looks like the earlybird caught the FTF as FLIPPER&CO live a lot closer than us to this cache. Thanks Crane2 for bringing this location to our attention. I hope to be around in 2028 when the time capsule is opened! TFTC.

What a devious hide by FLIPPER&CO, we would have expected nothing less. The description made us aware that the container was large and we initially focused on likely E&WS grills which wouldn’t budge. As GPSr reception was excellent GZ was determined and we couldn’t see anything resembling a large cache container within the 5 metres that our GPSr indicated. We then decided to abandon our search as even with the hint we couldn’t work out where the cache was! As we were about to depart, we decided to give it one more go and with the aid of the hint finally located the cache container. Unfortunately in our hast to get a FTF we didn’t come prepared with a DVD swap, we were tempted to take the Laural & Hardy DVD for the father-in-law, but decided to leave it. Once more an excellent hide by FLIPPER&CO. TFTC.

What a great New Year’s present! A new FLIPPER&CO cache. We must admit it’s a lot easier to get a FTF when FLIPPER&CO are the cache hiders! Sorry but no train swaps today. The cammo was great as was the hint. As usual the Nuvi directed us to maximise the degree of difficulty in locating the cache. If we’d driven to the end of Dolan Street it would almost have been a “drive by” find. TFTC.

Checked Google Maps and this looked likely to be an easy find. WRONG! The access gate is locked. Remembered that the notes said access was through the Renmark Industrial Park via Airport Road. Ended up at the airport with nowhere to go. Decided to follow our nose and the GPS and ended up driving on a number of tracks to ultimately end up less than 20 metres from GZ. (hint: follow the airport perimeter fence) The spolier image then made finding the cache easy. TFTC.
