What a devious hide by FLIPPER&CO, we would have expected nothing less. The description made us aware that the container was large and we initially focused on likely E&WS grills which wouldn’t budge. As GPSr reception was excellent GZ was determined and we couldn’t see anything resembling a large cache container within the 5 metres that our GPSr indicated. We then decided to abandon our search as even with the hint we couldn’t work out where the cache was! As we were about to depart, we decided to give it one more go and with the aid of the hint finally located the cache container. Unfortunately in our hast to get a FTF we didn’t come prepared with a DVD swap, we were tempted to take the Laural & Hardy DVD for the father-in-law, but decided to leave it. Once more an excellent hide by FLIPPER&CO. TFTC.

What a great New Year’s present! A new FLIPPER&CO cache. We must admit it’s a lot easier to get a FTF when FLIPPER&CO are the cache hiders! Sorry but no train swaps today. The cammo was great as was the hint. As usual the Nuvi directed us to maximise the degree of difficulty in locating the cache. If we’d driven to the end of Dolan Street it would almost have been a “drive by” find. TFTC.

Checked Google Maps and this looked likely to be an easy find. WRONG! The access gate is locked. Remembered that the notes said access was through the Renmark Industrial Park via Airport Road. Ended up at the airport with nowhere to go. Decided to follow our nose and the GPS and ended up driving on a number of tracks to ultimately end up less than 20 metres from GZ. (hint: follow the airport perimeter fence) The spolier image then made finding the cache easy. TFTC.

We had visions of reading tomorows paper with the headline “GEOCACHER MISTAKEN FOR BEING A DRUG COURIER”. Having arrived close to GZ we had a little difficulty getting the GPSr to the listed co-ordinates. As we found the cache one of the local Corrections Officer’s came past and enquired as to what we where doing. We then explained all about geocaching and he was surprised the cache had been there for almost 18 months and he wasn’t aware of it. As we do, we then logged the find into the PDA and we again aroused suspiscions as the Corrections Officer came back with his boss this time, and we had to show the boss where the cache was and what it was all about. Apparently GZ is known within the goal as a good spot to drop of contraband for the inmates as the goal has no perimeter fencing and the inmates are considered to be low risk prisoners. This cache will definitely go down for us as being a memorable one.
After all that, we took nothing, left nothing. Thanks Barras for the experience!

Arrived at the carpark close to GZ after a 20 minute drive from Renmark only to find a 150 metre walk to the top of the hill. Get to the top, find the cache, photograph the cache and the new batteries go flat. No problems, replace batteries – they’re flat as well. Looks like the whole batch of batteries I’ve bought are all duds! Not happy chappy.

Note to ones self – Always take printed map even when going paperless geocaching. After following two tracks to nowhere, we stumled upon the right track and logged a find. And it also happened to be our 50th find. Having found the cache, the next drama was getting back on to the main road. Through the gate and a further 2kms up the track and we were back on the main Wentworth Road – and mighty relieved also!

This was our third and last find for the day. I recollect crossing the river on this ferry over 35 years ago when as a child we spent a week for two or three years after Christmas on the Swan Houseboats. Unfortunately Swan Houseboats have also gone. TNLN. TFTC.

Our first find for the day at 1.20pm. Fantastic location. Again, over 35 years ago as a child I spend a week camping in a tent at this location. From my memory it hasn’t changed much at all. TNLN. TFTC.

My first find at 12.20pm, less than 500mtrs from home. Great intro find to wet my appetite for geocaching. Not a lot of mettle needed to decrypt the clue and fabulous 360% views of town. TNLN, TFTC.
